Pre-Historic Humans in Spain; From Atapuerca To Altamira

Hispanophiles Season 2 Episode 6

4,000 years.... 750,000 years.... ten million years.... How long do you think human beings have been living in Spain??

In this episode the Hispanophiles become anthropologists and get digging in the Sierra de Atapuerca to learn all about the lives of the earliest humans ever to live in Spain. From Ronda to Santander, the discoveries of fossilised skeletons and cave paintings illustrate the spread of the first hominids in the Iberian Peninsula. But although Homo Antecessor, Homo Heidelbergensis and the Neanderthals thrived across Spain for hundreds of thousands of years, climate disaster and the arrival of a new specimen quickly drove them to extinction....

We hope you enjoy this fascinating look at ancient history, and thank you for listening to the Hispanophiles podcast!
